Central African Republic

Forest elephants bulldoze forest trails for rare spiral-horned bongo antelopes, giant forest hogs, and up to 2,000 massive lowland gorillas—one of their densest populations anywhere—in Dzanga-Sangha Dense Forest Reserve.

Some of Africa’s great natural areas—huge, wild places with great herds of elephants, lowland gorilla families, lions, leopards, grazing animals, and stunning birds—are in this landlocked country roughly the size of France in the center of the continent.

Several adjoin reserves in neighboring countries—a promising development of recent years creating large, trans-border areas of natural protection, the result of innovative work between governments, local communities, and international organizations such as World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) and Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS).
