Crater Mountain Wildlife Management Area

Crater Mountain Wildlife Management Area is one of the best places to see both wildlife and spectacular scenery (plus the culture of friendly villagers who manage it) in P.N.G., covering 1,038 square miles (2,700 km2) ranging from lowland riverine rain forest to forested slopes of Crater Mountain. It’s possible to hike with a guide between the various villages or, easier, charter and fly among them. Local accommodation—simple, with local food—is usually available.
